Highway Safety Drill

Company
Our team successfully conducted a Joint Highway Emergency and Safety Drill at Maji ya Chumvi near the DEVKI Steel Mills. This significant exercise, coordinated by the Petroleum Institute of East Africa in partnership with Total Energies, OLA Energy, Rubis Energy, Vivo Energy, and key transporters, aimed to enhance safety protocols and emergency response strategies for the transportation of petroleum and petroleum products.
Key stakeholders actively participated in the drill, including the Disaster Management Unit of the Kilifi County Government, Kenya Ports Authority (KPA), National Disaster Operations Centre (NDOC), School of Petroleum Studies, and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA). Our partners, Kenya Red Cross and St. John’s Ambulance, provided essential paramedic and evacuation services, with the County Government of Kilifi ensuring a prompt response with their fire engine. The primary objective was to evaluate the emergency response capabilities of our team and the energy sector’s response team, assess the functionality of equipment, and educate the public on safety measures.
Following the drill, a thorough briefing session was conducted to raise awareness about the potential risks associated with Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) and the necessary safety precautions. It is crucial for all individuals to be aware of these risks and understand how to effectively respond in emergencies to ensure the safety of all road users.
As a county, we utilized this opportunity to share our emergency toll-free number 1535 and emphasize the role of the Emergency Operation Center. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to all participants, organizers, and support teams for their dedication to safety and preparedness. Let us continue collaborating for a safer future!
