I had a meeting with a group of Italian partners who are interested in working together with our County in the agricultural sector, specifically to improve cashew nut production. They are enthusiastic about establishing a center of excellence that will improve the productivity and quality standards of cashew nuts, with a focus on the export market. As part of their program, they plan to start a seedling nursery with 1,000,000 seedlings for distribution to farmers, provide training and capacity building to 9,000 farmers, and create a market that will directly purchase produce from farmers through an automated system, eliminating middlemen and ensuring fair prices for farmers.
The consortium is also interested in partnering with the county government to support the healthcare and education sectors. My administration is committed to creating a conducive environment for collaborations with international partners. We are excited to support this project for the benefit of our farmers and the people of Kilifi.
