The hydrocelectomy surgeries, also known as Mapumbu surgeries, commenced at Marafa Sub County Hospital on 11/9/2024. The team was led by, Dr. Abdiqan Alin, Dr. Morris Buni and Dr. Hashim.
On Day 1 of the surgery, a total of 6 successful surgeries were carried out and patients were discharged home.
Day 2 of the surgery saw 9 successful procedures being completed.
On Day 3, 10 successful surgeries were performed.
These surgeries will continue throughout the month with the aim of reducing the burden of hydroceles in Magarini Subcounty. This initiative has been made possible by the operationalization of Marafa Hospital, in alignment with the governor’s efforts to improve service delivery by bringing healthcare closer to the residents. This allows patients to be treated in Marafa instead of needing to travel to Malindi, in line with the principles of Universal Health Coverage (UHC) to make healthcare services more accessible and affordable in rural areas.
Marafa Sub County Hospital now proudly offers specialized services through the presence of a Gynecologist, Pediatrician, and medical officers. We encourage the people of Magarini to take advantage of these services and utilize the healthcare facilities now available in their community.
