The Kilifi Department of Water, Environment, Climate Change & Forestry, led by its Chief Officer in Charge of Water, Eng. Hezekiah Mwaruwa, accompanied Water, Irrigation and Sanitation CS Zachariah Njeru, Principal Secretary Julius Korir, Malindi MP Amina Mnyazi, and officials from Coast Water Works Development Agency on an inspection tour of the four billion shillings Baricho-Kakuyuni pipeline. The CS and the team also conducted inspections of the Baricho wells and the Baricho water treatment plant in Langobaya.
This specific project has significantly increased water volumes and is anticipated to have a transformative impact once fully operational. The water from Baricho serves both Kilifi and Mombasa counties, as well as certain parts of Kwale county.
The Kilifi county government, through its water department, is concurrently implementing various water projects in the county with the aim of addressing the persistent issue of water scarcity in the region.
