It was a wonderful experience to be part of the gathering at the Buntwani waterfront in Malindi, where members of the judiciary, led by the Malindi high Court Presiding Judge Hon. Justice Stephen Githinji, along with various stakeholders and the general public, came together for the Kilifi County Court Users Committee open day.
This annual event aims to strengthen the justice system by fostering interaction and inclusivity among different stakeholders such as judges, magistrates, registrars, law enforcement officers, legal professionals, and the public.
As part of the county court users committee, we have discussed various issues including land disputes, environmental concerns, and societal challenges like gender-based violence. In line with a high court ruling by Lady Justice Florence Mmemi, I have waived fees for P3 forms in GBV cases. I have also directed all health facilities in Kilifi County to provide free P3 forms to GBV victims.
To enhance access to justice in Kilifi County, we have started building county law enforcement centers that will also house the county court in Mtwapa. This initiative will eventually expand to all sub-counties within the county, beginning with the Kilifi County Court. This effort aligns with the judiciary’s transformation journey to enhance service delivery nationwide.
