Today, a successful follow-up meeting was conducted with Thumbay University’s management team, led by Director of Medical Operations, Dr. Fozi Abozaid, to discuss the implementation of the partnership between Thumbay University Hospital and Kilifi County. I am happy to announce that an agreement has been reached to provide partial scholarships for postgraduate medical training to medical officers in partnership with Kilifi County Government and Thumbay University. The first group of medical officers will begin their studies this July.
Last February, Thumbay University Hospital and Kilifi County signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) outlining their collaboration on healthcare workforce development.
This entails providing postgraduate education for medical officers, facilitating skill development for health managers in customer service and service provision, and offering middle-level training for nurses and clinical officers. The program, which is a fully funded scholarship initiative by Thumbay University, aims to improve capabilities in critical care management, intensive care unit operations, maternity services, neonatal units, and infection prevention.
Healthcare is a top priority for me, and establishing such exchange programs with Thumbay University and other partners globally is a significant achievement for Kilifi, ensuring a brighter future for medical practices in the region.
In attendance are Hon. Peter Mwarogo, the County Executive Committee Member for Health, Dr David Mulewa, the Chief Officer of Health, Hon Raymond Ngala, the County Executive Committee Member for Finance, and Ms. Lynne Farrah, the Chief Officer of Trade.
