I have had a positive and productive engagement with Mr. Rajeev Arora, the Chief Executive Officer of Wezesha Bado, a non-governmental organization specializing in organic fabrics. Wezesha Bado is dedicated to making a difference in the community through various programs aimed at empowering youth and women especially gender-based violence and people living with disabilities. To date, they have successfully trained 802 youth in sewing machine operator training, with 798 of them securing employment in the Export Processing Zone (EPZ) in Machakos County.
Wezesha Bado has recently diversified its partnership in Makueni County with Tosheka Textiles, where they have implemented a proof-of-concept. As part of their strategic growth plan, Wezesha Bado intends to extend its reach to a total of 10 counties within Kenya, with Taita Taveta and Kilifi being the next target. Once operationalised, they plan to train 1000 women and youths in sewing, with an anticipated employment rate of 99% in the textile industry (EPZ). Furthermore, the organization will provide training in Charkha spinning to develop- handloom fabric, which is expected to generate over 5,000 jobs within 18 months.
This project is projected to directly benefit 500 households in each county, positively impacting over 5,000 individuals.
